Our Organization
Northeast Action is a hub of progressive movement building in New England and New York. We work to promote a more just society, helping greater numbers of people become actively involved in the public decisions that impact their lives. Founded in 1984, Northeast Action has a staff of 5 and offices in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Our Goal

To foster a grassroots movement for social change in the Northeast where progressive individuals and communities can find joint purpose and common ground. A movement that promotes democratic renewal, economic and racial justice and the creative strategies, policies and leadership that make change happen.

Our Network
We work with grassroots organizations, with a special focus on supporting organizations and leaders of color. Our five affiliate organizations - Citizen Action of New York, Connecticut Citizen Action Group, Maine People's Alliance, New Hampshire Citizen's Alliance, and Ocean State Action - are some of the most effective citizen led organizations in the country. Together we bring together hundreds of grassroots, statewide and community organizations and leaders in coordinated action. Together we are redefining power - building progressive leadership across color lines.

What We Do
Northeast Action provides affiliates and allies with strategic direction and policy development, technical support and staff and leadership training. We help increase capacity for collective action, and strengthen ties to core constituencies. We assist in drawing thousands of new activists, especially from communities that traditionally have been underrepresented in the political system - as well as political activists, community organizers, and progressive elected officials - into movements for progressive social change.
