Train Leaders

At Northeast Action, training is a strategy for building relationships, capacity, and our network. It is also the first step towards skillful and sustainable action. At the core of our training are skill-building exercises that help participants understand how people can expand and deploy grassroots power in their communities. We provide trainings on:

  • Organizing Leadership
  • Collaborative Practices
  • Civic Engagement
  • Candidate Campaigns
  • Racial Justice
  • Worldview

Four principles guide our trainings:

  • SOUND RELATIONSHIPS
The best learning happens in nurturing relationships. Nurturing relationships are based on respect, which for us means understanding what the learner wants to learn and how they want to learn it. Surfacing and dealing with conflict is core to authentic learning.

  • CLEAR ROLES
The goal of all our trainings is to facilitate the learner in owning the learning process.

  • ENGAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY
The workshop leader is accountable to the group. This means that she ensures that learning objectives are clear and that participants achieve them. Participants, in turn, are accountable to one another. They support each other's learning process.

  • SUSTAINABILITY AND MOVEMENT BUILDING
Northeast Action works through partnerships that connect us to participants and co-trainers. We design workshops that build relationships and move people to action.

We provide trainings in New England and New York, primarily in partnership with our affiliate organizations and allies. We are expanding our training support to grassroots organizations serving people of color, in order to advance our overarching goal of building leadership across color lines.
